"Your Support Will Help Imani to Grow and Learn"
|
| At only 2½ years old, Imani has already had to deal with so many challenges. Born with paralysis on one side due to a stroke suffered before birth, Imani has had numerous medical issues, including hearing loss that has affected her ability to speak and learn. Her birth mother, who was only a teenager, decided she couldn't give Imani the care she so desperately needed and placed her in foster care with her cousin Everett and his wife Saronya. Saronya and Everett, who already had an older daughter of their own, says that taking Imani in was "just the right thing to do."
Earlier this year, Imani received bilateral cochlear implants. With her hearing ability improved, she has quickly learned to speak simple words. Saronya and Imani meet weekly with Anedra Robinson, the Regional Infant Hearing Program outreach specialist who has worked with Imani since she was born. Anedra is amazed how far Imani has come with her language and learning skills. She knows that with the continued love and support of Saryona and her family, Imani will enter school ready to grow and learn.
At Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, we're doing everything we can to help connect people to their family, friends, co-workers, and the world. It's your support that allows children like Imani to overcome their communication-related challenges to reach their goals.

"Your Support
Gave Me
Back My Confidence"

When Natalie was 7, she began stuttering. She dreaded having to get up in front of her class to speak because the other children would tease her about the way she talked. She felt embarrassed and very shy around people. After 4 years of frustration, Natalie knew that she didn't want to live this way and she asked her parents to find her help. On the advice of their pediatrician, they came to Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, where Natalie was seen by speech-language pathologist Lauren Masuga. After two years of therapy, Lauren is so proud of the progress that Natalie has made. Today, the shy little girl who lost her confidence is nowhere to be found. Natalie is bright, funny, and a very articulate young lady. Ironically, her mom might tell you that she talks a little bit too much--just like any other normal teenager, which is all that Natalie wants to be.
To find out more about Natalie's story, click here to watch a video of an appearance she and Lauren did on the Good Company TV Show.
